First
things first - all of our artwork is
handmade, by real craftsmans, in the
traditional way. We only do the real
thing – genuine leaf paintings, by
real living, breathing, hardworking,
talented and experienced artists
(forgive us for going on so much,
but we’re rather proud of them!).
PREPARING MATERIALS FOR LEAF
PAINTING
- Collecting dry leaf:
Dry leaf is collected from many
place, in the countryside’s road,
along streets or in Vietnam’s
forest.
|
-
The first step selection:
Dry leaf is gathered round
workshop to discard unsuitable
leaf: tattered, discoloured leaf
or leaf hasn’t decayed or begun
the decay process. |
| |
|
|
-
The second step selection:
This second step selection
ensures that all of selected
leaf are met the demand for good
quality and not influence to
following processes treament.
|
| |
|
|
- Washing up leaf: This
step seems to be simple but
each leave need to wash with
care because they are fragile.
This step require that all of
leaf are clean without a stain
on the leaf surface if not it
will cause bad influence to leaf
colour.
|
| |
|
|
- Boiling leaf:
After careful selection and
cleaning, leaf is boiled in big
pots. This is the most important
step during treament processess
series. Only experienced
craftsman can take on this
process. Because different kind
of leaf requires different
boiling temperature and time
treament. This process takes 2-3
days, sometime even up to 1
week ( belonging to
characteristic of leaf and
desired colour ). After hundred
times of practical tests,
researching carefully
particularities of each leaf to
find the best way for manual
treament of them. |
|
|
We have succeeded in keeping
natural colour for many kinds of
leaf by manual treament and also
created many unique colours
which can not find in nature.
With this great success, we now
can give to all our leaf
paintings with various colours
which you rarely see that
beautiful colours in Japanese
leaf paintings. |
| |
|
|
- Exposing to the sun:
After boiling process, dry leaf
with the initial properties:
fragile, crispness, easy to
loose natural colour… now
becoming soft, tough, stable and
fast colour. Treated leaf is now
exposed to the sun for drying.
|
|
| |
|
|
- Supplemented dyeing:
Because natural colour of leaf
is restricted so some colours we
have to dye by pigments. This
process also requires experience
and techniques for stable and
long-lasting colour leaf.

OUTLINE
|
Our craftsmans (our artists)
outline the main detail of the
leaf painting in pencil. Some of
our artists prefer to sketch out
the outline of the painting, and
others use a grid system or
special tool to ensure the
dimensions and spacing of the
reproduction are going to be
accurate. This outline will be
the template for the leaf
painting to follow.
|
SELECTING SUITABLE LEAF FOR PAINTING
After drawing outline, the
craftsman have to choose the right
leaf with suitable colour for his
art-works. Because each craftsman
has his own feeling with his
art-works so each person will choose
with different leaf and colour. This
unique particularity make leaf
painting totally different with
other type of art: oil painting,
lacquer, embroidery painting…
because with the same content but
you can not find two leaf paintings
is the same with each other. Art
lovers can be sure that that when
they hang a leaf painting in their
home, this leaf painting is unique.
TRANSFERING OUTLINE INTO LEAF
PAINTING BY LEAF
|
This important stage require
craftsman’s patience, diligence
and creation. One finished leaf
painting is made of thousands of
leaf details and craftsman only
use scissors to cut leaf into
desired shapes. Normally, it
takes 3-5 days to finish one
leaf painting. Some big and
complicated leaf painting
require much more time. |

FINISHED!
The leaf painting is completed, and
the quality is checked by the master
craftsman.
