Leaf painting is an unique art of
Vietnam. With the use of leaf as an
unique art material, Vietnamese have
brought back leaf to an eternal
life, contributing to art a new
breath of air.
Before presenting in Vietnam, leaf
painting have appeared in Japan,
China, India with two main forms:
Cutting and pasting dry leaf to make
leaf paintings or using paint to
draw on the surface of dry leaf to
make leaf paintings.
In China or India, leaf painting is
made by drawing onto leaf of a
number of plants. In this case, leaf
play the role as drawing-paper,
artists still have to use paint to
finish their art-works. A basic
drawback of this art form is: Leaf
size is limited so that it will
restrict the creative power of
artists who require a bigger ground
for their art-works.

In Japan, Kazuo Akasaki is now
famous in the field of leaf
painting art. Many art-schools in
this cheery flower country were
named after him. Twenty years ago,
he was unknown artist in Japan and lived
in misery. But he did not care about
that, the only thing that occupied
his mind was: Made paintings from
dry leaf. Despite the fact that his
household was in major debt and they
had angry loan sharks banging on
their doors, Akasaki continued to
work on his art and his family
supported him. When all hope seemed
lost, they received a phone call
informing them that the following
painting had been awarded the “Salon
de Paris” at the 1986 Fine-arts
Paris Exhibition of Japan: The prize
launched Akasaki’s successful art
career, giving impetus to his
glorious leaf painting art.
Gazing with veneration at Kazuo
Akasaki’s leaf paintings, everybody
has to admire his patience and
diligence for each small detail in
his art-work, some leaf paintings
taken him 6 months to finish.
However, the leaf paintings of the
Kazuo Akasaki still exist
restrictions: Limitation in
diversified leaf’s colours which
cause lookers-on feeling that all of
his leaf paintings are covered with
the same typical colour of dry leaf:
argent brown which make his
art-works look dismal and sad, so
that it is not suitable for
decoration in spaces which need more
colourful.

Desiring to introduce Vietnamese
Leaf Paintings to art lovers all
over the world, our Vietnamese Leaf
Paintings workshop has inherited
peculiars
from Japanese and Chinese leaf
paintings and bring it to a high
level of art. Working with
industry,cleverness and creation, we
had tested practically hundred
times to find new method for leaf
treatment which can keep dry leaf
with original colour and
long-lasting existence with the test
of time. Making the utmost effort,
we have gained great result for
manual leaf treatment by temperature
factor. With this new method, we can
keep some dry leaf with natural
colour: yellow, white, green,…not
need to use pigments. Some colours
which we can not create by manual
leaf treatment, we had have to use
pigments to dye. In the time to
come, we are in progress to use 100%
natural colour leaf( after manual
treament by temperature,…) in our
unique leaf paintings.
